Fashion takes over the museum

The highly anticipated opening of the Musée Yves Saint-Laurent on 3 October is already promising to be one of the highlights of 2017! With no less than 450 m² of exhibition space devoted to one of the greatest couturiers of the 20th century, this new temple of French fashion is sure to be as elegant and refined as its muse.

Christian Dior, couturier du rêve is an exhibition that should not be missed and is a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the prestigious fashion house. The exhibition can be seen at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris and invites visitors to discover the world of renowned fashion designers who have worked for the label, spearheading a wide variety of trends.  

The Grand Palais pays tribute to photographer Irving Penn from 21 September 2017 to 29 January 2018. Another exhibition, devoted to the Hermès fashion house, Hermès à tire-d'aile - Les mondes de Leïla Menchari, showcases the work of Leïla Menchari, the designer behind the fashion house’s window displays from 1978 to 2013. The exhibition runs from 8 November to 3 December 2017.

Paris’s fashion museum, the Palais Galliera boasts a large monographic exhibition devoted to Mariano Fortuny (Fortuny, un Espagnol à Venise, from 4 October 2017 to 18 January 2018). The Spanish theme continues with the museum’s off-site exhibition at the Maison Victor Hugo, Habits aux couleurs de l’Espagne that runs until 24 September 2017.

At the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris, the exhibition Medusa, bijoux et tabous offers a contemporary and original perspective on the fascinating, and at times, disturbing power of jewellery. This exhibition can be enjoyed until 5 November 2017.

At the iconic boutique Colette, experience the remarkable Jardin Sacai (Sacai Garden), a specially dedicated space that boasts a highly original layout in a tribute to the world of the Japanese clothing brand (from 4 September 2017).

Finally, visitors can discover the history of the famous Chloé fashion house at the Maison Chloé, a cultural centre stretching over five floors. The centre is holding its first exhibition, entitled Femininities – Guy Bourdin, paying tribute to one of fashion photography’s most iconic figures. It runs until 6 September and again from 18 October to 18 November 2017.

The month of September is a busy time in the world of fashion, with plenty of events showcasing a variety of new and upcoming trends sure to suit every taste!

From 26 September to 3 October 2017, the famous Fashion Week takes place in some of the capital’s most iconic venues and provides fashionistas with the opportunity to discover women’s prêt-à-porter collections for spring-summer 2018.

Pulp Fashion Week, a cosmopolitan fashion fair celebrates its fifth anniversary at the Pulp Fashion Week, a cosmopolitan fashion fair celebrates its fifth anniversary at the Salons Vianey from 30 September to 1 October 2017. This alternative fashion week celebrates diversity and programmes a number of fashion shows, auctions and private concerts, open to the public.  

Also on at this time, the Paris sur mode Fair invites about one hundred fashion brands and designers to present their autumn-winter collections at the Jardin des Tuileries from 28 September to 1 October 2017. A chance to enjoy fashion in an atypical setting!

The Cité de la Mode et du Design, a veritable city within a city with its 15,000 m² and almost 1.5 million visitors every year, pays homage to the sports shoe on the occasion of the Sneakerness Fair. Enjoy a closer look at street culture on 9 and 10 September at Europe’s biggest sneakers fair.

The Cité de la Mode et du Design is also hosting on 4 November 2017 a fashion show called Fashion Handi. This event aims to challenge stereotypes and boasts a cabaret theme this year.  

Finally for any lovebirds planning to get married, the Salon du mariage (Wedding Fair) on 16 and 17 September 2017 allows couples to discover the latest trends in bridal gowns and suits.
